The fieldwork in geology

4.- Outcrop close view

To confirm the observations that we have made in a long distance and to study materials as samples we go close to the outcrop. For each of the considered units it will be necessary:

  • To study its structure: you can make incline measurements of layers, cracks, faults, etc. To make a hypothesis would be convenient in order to classify the rock in one of the main groups.
  • Look for the most suitable place to take a sample.
  • For its entirety, we will have to:
  • Analyse it closely so as to examine great interest areas, e.g. jointed and fracture areas, internal structure of layers…
